5th Blog- Project Meeting

This day marked another significant step in my academic journey. Although we did not have a formal class meeting with our professor, my classmates and I took the initiative to convene and work on one of the key deliverables for our subject. The experience turned out to be quite engaging as I collaborated with a group of individuals who, despite coming from diverse professional backgrounds, all shared a common objective—successfully completing our industry analysis team report.

We began our meeting by brainstorming ideas for the project, discussing what industry we wanted to focus on, and how we could best organize our efforts to produce a well-rounded and insightful report. It was fascinating to see how each person contributed from their unique perspective, offering insights from their respective fields, which added richness to our discussion. As someone who is currently navigating the transition between being a student and a professional, this collaborative process allowed me to witness firsthand how people from various industries can come together to achieve a shared goal.

After much discussion, we decided that the company of one of our classmates, where he is currently employed, would be an ideal subject for our project. The company, a mid-sized enterprise, operates within a fast-growing industry, which will provide us with the opportunity to analyze not only its internal processes but also its external positioning in the market. This choice of subject also gives us access to insider information that would otherwise be difficult to gather, providing us with a comprehensive view of the company's strengths, challenges, and growth potential.

One of the highlights of our discussion was how to assign leadership and responsibilities within the group. While we still needed to choose a formal project leader, we agreed on the importance of delegating tasks based on expertise. We discussed the responsibilities involved, such as ensuring the project stays on track, facilitating communication, and coordinating deliverables. Each member of the group expressed willingness to take on leadership roles for different sections of the project as we move forward, and we plan to assign these responsibilities soon.

We also structured the team into smaller groups, each responsible for a different area of the project. We organized ourselves based on the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) framework, which outlines various project management knowledge areas. These knowledge areas, which include aspects such as scope management, time management, cost management, and risk management, allowed us to break down the project into manageable sections, ensuring that each group could focus on a specific task without losing sight of the overall goal.

Being part of this team gave me a deep appreciation for the collaborative nature of project management. While each group was responsible for a specific knowledge area, it was clear that no group could work in isolation. Communication and coordination between the groups were crucial, and we spent a considerable amount of time discussing how we would share information and updates to ensure that everyone stayed aligned with the project’s objectives. For instance, the team handling scope management needed to constantly interact with those working on time and cost management to make sure that the project's scope was realistic within the given budget and timeline.

This experience also highlighted the importance of industry analysis. We recognized that understanding the external environment in which a company operates is just as critical as examining its internal workings. To that end, we discussed various methods of conducting our industry analysis. This would allow us to evaluate the competitive landscape, potential risks, and opportunities that the company might face, providing a more holistic view of its operational environment.

In conclusion, this day was not just about making progress on our deliverable but also about learning how to work effectively as a team in a professional setting. The diverse backgrounds of my classmates added depth to our discussions, and the decision-making process taught me valuable lessons in leadership, collaboration, and project management. I am excited to see how our project will evolve in the coming weeks as we continue to build on the strong foundation we established today.
